Understanding and Confronting Bias

Duration: 60-90 minutes

Grades: 6th - 12th
Adults: We offer professional development sessions and seminars to teachers, administrators and community members.

Some say that eliminating our biases is impossible. We believe that it is important to understand bias, and that learning about and reflecting on the source of biases offers helpful insights into our own and others' actions. This program is an important addition to our offerings. It shares tools and resources from Learning for Justice, Facing History and Ourselves, and the Anti-Defamation League, among others, to help students recognize that we all have biases and confronting them is important and beneficial. This workshop emphasizes interactive activities and student participation. Only by recognizing that bias exists in ourselves and our systems can we begin the process of improving our schools and communities.
