An Artist Talk and Demonstration

Artist Susan Bakaley Marshall, MPS, has a master’s degree in Creative Arts Therapy from Pratt Institute. This exhibit reflects both her personal connection to and the resilience of the Jewish ritual of Counting the Omer. Join her for an artist’s talk, including a demonstration of the process of Touch Drawing, which was used in the nine pieces of artwork displayed. She will share how she was inspired to create forty-nine paintings, one for each day of the Omer. Register here.

A Community Workshop

This workshop with Artist Susan Bakaley Marshall, MPS, we welcome all who wish to join us in learning more about this creative art form. Touch drawing is a simple yet profound process. Paper is placed over wet paint and the pressure of fingertips on the page forms images. There is a definite spiritual aspect to using this method since one uses their hands directly on the paper, allowing what wants to be revealed to come through. You will certainly have the opportunity to tap into your own unique creative expression. Susan looks forward to sharing Touch Drawing with the HHRC community. She is passionate about experiencing with others the creative spark we all hold within, enabling us to live richer and fuller lives. Limited to 16 people. Register here.

Dismantling Democracy

Dismantling Democracy: 53 Days in Nazi Germany explores the critical weeks following Hitler’s appointment as chancellor in 1933, when the Nazi Party legally and systematically dismantled the democratic foundations of the Weimar Republic. Grounded in primary sources and historical context, the program offers an opportunity to learn about this pivotal moment in history—one that reminds us how quickly democratic institutions can erode.

At the HHRC, we work to promote Holocaust education, confront antisemitism and bias, and strengthen a more informed and compassionate civic culture across our state.  One way we pursue that mission is through educational programs that invite communities to examine history in ways that deepen understanding and inspire civic engagement.
