World War One: Letters Home

World War One: Letters Home is an intimate and personal glimpse into the experiences and feelings of young people during wartime one century ago.

This exhibit of artifacts, photographs, personal notes, and letters shares stories of World War One as experienced and documented by Maine college students, Maine residents, and their family members. Accounts from the European theater and various stateside camps remind us of the wide, deeply personal, and sometimes fatal impacts of this enormous conflict both abroad and at home.The exhibit will be on display at the Michael Klahr Center through October 13th and will be followed by a year-long project focusing on digging deeper into the history and stories of the letters.World War One: Letters Home has received support from the World War One and America project of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, and the UMA Diversity Committee. Letters have come from the archives of the Fogler Library, Bates, Bowdoin and Colby Colleges; The Maine Memory Network of the Maine Historical Society, and several individuals from around Maine.
