A Statement from the HHRC
The Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine (HHRC) is heartbroken and outraged by the brutal murders of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim outside the Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, during a bridge-building event meant to unite communities. This heinous act of violence is a painful reminder that antisemitism remains a dangerous and persistent threat in our society.
The HHRC’s mission, grounded in our Jewish roots and shaped by the enduring lessons of the Holocaust, compels us to speak out against such hatred in all its forms. We honor the memory of those lost by reaffirming our commitment to educating the public about the dangers of bigotry, prejudice, and silence.
Antisemitism is not a problem for Jewish communities to confront alone—it is a threat to the values of humanity, dignity, and justice. In this moment of grief, we call on all people—those directly under attack and those whose friends and family are under threat—to stand together in solidarity. We must confront antisemitism wherever it surfaces, not only as an act of support but as a moral imperative.
This violence must not divide us. Instead, let it strengthen our resolve to build a world where no one lives in fear because of who they are or what they believe.
